SLO FIRE FIRE PROTECTANT
FIRE RETARDANT FOR TEXTILE FABRIC.
Safe, Non-Hazardous, Non-Toxic
For application on a wide range of textile
fabrics, to prevent or retard flame spread.
TEXTILE FLAME RETARDANT
SLO FIRE Textile Flame Retardant may be applied to many types of textile fabric to prevent or reduce the rate at which they burn.
Prevents or retards flame spread through the formation of a localized char.
INSTRUCTIONS
Use on drapes, furniture, bed mattress, selected areas of carpet such as near a fireplace.
Make sure the fabric is clean, then spray until throughly wet. Saturate deep enough to not only wet the outer fabric but to penetrate into the inner materials as well. Spray well in spaces and folds between cushions and other hidden areas. Run your hand over the fabric, rub and pad it in to allow penetration. Use protective gloves if skin is sensitive to the flame retardant material. Allow several hours to dry.
For use on:
Cotton and Cotton Blends
Rayon
Polyester
Acrylic Blends (<70%)
Cellulose
Cellulose Acetates
Polyamide
Wool
Most 100% Synthetic Blends
WHAT SHOULD BE TREATED
Many home construction materials such as dry wall and many types of carpet are naturally fire retardant to some degree or have been factory pretreated. It is items such as drapes, sofas, stuffed chairs, beds and other furniture which pose the greatest threat.
These materials may catch fire and burn quickly, just like kindling. Imagine
your unprotected drapes catching fire so quickly that they burn from floor to
ceiling in a matter of seconds.
Drapes - Spray very wet. Open all pleats and folds to allow for maximum penetration. Spray from both sides for best results.
Furniture - Sofas, Stuffed Chairs - treat all surfaces including folds and spaces between cushions or other hidden areas. Include the bottom, for maximum protection.
Bedding - Mattresses, Box Springs, Skirting. Remove all covers, sheets etc. and treat all exposed areas including underneath the bed for maximum protection.
Carpet - Treat carpet near a fire place (or other fire source such as a heater or water heater). Treat throw down rugs.
APPLICATION
As a general rule, apply:
1 coat - most natural fibers and blends including cotton, rayon.
2 coats- synthetic fibers and blends including polyester
Each coat should cover about 150 sqft/gal of material.
Remove a small piece of the fabric after treatment and test for flame retardant efficiency. Apply additional coat if necessary.
WARNING
Flamability performance should be verified for each fabric treated. Performance may be influenced by the amount of spray applied and by the type of fabric being treated.
Spray a small test area before applying. Some fabrics do not have water fast dyes and may bleed when exposed to water base solutions.
Washing with water will remove the flame retardant material from the fabric. Reapply after washing. May withstand 3 dry cleaning cycles with standard dry cleaning solvent.
May not be effective for some fabrics.
* Will not work on vinyl or material >70% acrylic -will not penetrate.
* Nylon -may require additional coatings
* Leather -has natural fire resistance.
* Silk -may form water stains.
USE OF SMOKE AND HEAT ALARMS
Always maintain smoke and heat detectors in good working order. While asleep, the sense of smell is lost. Alarms are designed to detect smoke or heat and sound an alarm. Many fire deaths occur at night, in many cases as a result of smoke inhalation.
Have at least 2 possible escape routes from each room of the house
Have a prearranged meeting place outside the house. Have a roll call.
Call the fire department from outside your home.
Never reenter a burning.
Check room doors for heat or smoke seepage. Never open a hot door.
With smoke, stay close to the floor. Breath as little as possible through a cloth (wet if possible).
How to escape from a fire
VERY IMPORTANT, READ CAREFULLY
Slickote Coatings wants you to clearly understand that SLO-FIRE Textile Fire Retardant is not sold nor intended to prevent damage or protect real or personal property. Retarding the rate of fire spread is the primary function of this product. This product is temporary and must be reapplied each time after washing. The ability to prevent or retard flame spread is dependent on the amount of material applied and the type of fabric. Some fabrics may not be suitable for treatment. Testing each fabric after application is the only way to ascertain the degree of effectiveness. Textile materials, which are not water fast, are not suitable for treatment.
Life safety is best achieved by using this product in combination with alarms of various types in all rooms and areas of the household. Anything less than complete protection increases risk. Maintain all alarms in good working condition, testing as required.
Apply Textile Flame Retardant to all drapes, bedding, and furniture fabrics in the household. Repeat treatment on an annual basis for maximum protection.
